Blue Meanies
Kiss Your Ass Goodbye! (Fuse Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Is ska the next big thing? Who knows, but ska is definitely on the rise. And one of the ska bands on the rise right now is Blue Meanies. Touring their latest release, Kiss Your Ass Goodbye!, the Blue Meanies have already attracted a good size following.

The Blue Meanies combine fast paced ska with hard hitting punk to blend together a great sounding combination, sure to make any ska/punk fan happy.

Their latest release, Kiss Your Ass Goodbye!, is eleven tracks (32:28 minutes) of good quality ska/punk. The album starts off with "Acceleration 5000." A really faced pace song that is more punk than ska. Then we move to "It Doesn't Matter." A perfect song to dance to. Ska all the way through! "Vote No" is the third track on the album. Then we move on to "Grandma Shampoo." A slow bass intro, then guitar, and shortly after that drums enter the song to set the mood. The song runs slow paced for about a minute, but when vocals kick in, the song moves 10 times faster. "Tread" is next on the CD. A very well composed ska song. Probably one of my favorite songs on the album. Then we come to track six. "Polka in the Eye" is the kind of song that makes you want to get up and dance. Definitely a future single off the album, if not, then a stand-out album track. "An average American Superhero," "Aquarium Bong," and "The Shit Fuck Man" are the next three songs on the album. "Dilate" and "Johnny Mortgage" round out the album.

Blue Meanies new CD "KISS YOUR ASS GOODBYE!" is definitely for anyone who is ska/punk influenced. I would rate this CD an A-. It could be a little more focused, but overall it is a great album! I recommend you go pick it up today, and if you can't find it at your local record store e-mail Fuse Records (the record label that puts out the album) at: [email protected]. You can also e-mail and talk to the band at: [email protected].
