Jon Cougar Concentration Camp
'Til Niagara Falls (BYO Records)

By: Jeff Lockwood

I must tell the truth. My sister got me a record store gift certificate as an engagement present and I decided that I would not be as scrutinizing as I usually am when I am buying music. It was free, after all. So, yes, I bought this CD solely because I liked the name of the band. I mean, how cool is the name Jon Cougar Concentration Camp? Yeah. I knew that this band was punk rock because a few months earlier I saw their name listed in Maximum Rock and Roll as the "band with the best name". Despite the original name, JCCC's brand of punk is both old and fresh. Allow me to explain. JCCC deliver simple punk rock songs which are fast, slightly melodic and fun. This is what punk rock used to be like before MTV got a hold of it. If this CD came out seven years ago, it would most likely have been "just another punk CD". But, in 1998, 'Til Niagara Falls is a blast of refreshing punk for yer head.
