This New York trio (via Japan) grabbed my attention with their first 7" and have held it ever since. As expected, this new CD shows the band getting even more bizarre and eclectic than before. It is my understanding that ULTRA BIDE like to hang with the Knitting Factory crowd and those influences are increasingly obvious in their music. The hardcore roots of the band are almost impossible to detect now. Instead there is a minimalistic groove at the heart of the music not dissimilar in many ways to ALICE DONUT's more abstract tunes. With the addition of a lot of electronic noise the band have also developed a bit of an experimental / industrial edge. This disc is a must have for people looking for the new and unexplored.
