HOOVER'S G-STRING
Gargle (Red Tide Records/2517 South Walter Reed Dr.. Suite D/Arlington, VA 22206)

By: Jeb Branin

The neo-pop that is infesting the college airwaves is usually oh-so trite and boring. Leave it to a band with a name as cool as HOOVER'S G-STRING to liven things up a bit. The CD opens in fine fashion with the up-tempo pop and tongue in cheek lyrical brilliance of "Head." This little ditty that will have you singing the chorus all day long and if your not careful about where you sing, might get earn you a few perplexed stares... I speak from first hand experience here. The rest of the disc is a menagerie of other fine pop tunes with an occasional alternative edge and ska flavoring. Nothing quite matches the standard set on the opening cut, but that is a minor indictment at best. That's what singles are for.
