Mediaeval Babes Salva Nos (Virgin Records) By: Geoff Melton

While not exactly Top 40 fare, Salva Nos is an enchanting collecton of 14th century songs performed by a vocal choir 12 woman strong, and featuring 2 former members of the Miranda Sex Garden. Accompanied at times by tambourine, mandolin, hurdy gurdy and recorder, but largely a cappella, these traditional tunes, written in Latin, ancient French, Scandinavian and Middle English and performed exquisitly, range from the choir-like "Now Springes The Spray" and "Lo, Here My Heart" to the sprightly "Salva Nos" and "Ah Si Mon Moine" to the anthem-like chant of "Binnorie O Binnorie". A captivatingly beautiful disc that could do to medieval classics what Enigma did to Gregorian Chants.
