Epoch of Unlight What Will Be Has Been (The End Records) By: Jeb Branin

It's great to hear a black metal album that is both ferocious and brutal. Instead of borrowing from the already established black metal milieu, EPOCH OF UNLIGHT blaze their own trail. It is a rather unique occurrence in this genre to find a band who are not derivative but find one you will in this Tennessee based act. They blend plentiful amounts of death and classic metal into their sound thus creating a rich melodic texture that underscores the aggressive and harsh execution. Crisp rhythms provide a vehicle for whirlwind riffs and twisted dual vocals. EPOCH OF UNLIGHT avoid almost entirely the grandiose posturing so prevalent amongst many of their peers and opt for a more direct and visceral delivery. It's genuine, it's powerful, and it makes for what may be the black metal album of the year.
