Grey Area
Grey Area (Victory Records)

By: Jeb Branin

Dedicating themselves to the memory of Raybeez ex-members of WARZONE past and present are teaming up in various bands. GREY AREA is one such project. The band members are wise enough to realize that the worst thing they could possibly do is try and recreate another WARZONE so GREY AREA takes an entirely different path. This self titled debut is a collection of infectious hook laden melody-core tunes. Crisp and sharp guitars lend the project muscle and melody. The backbeat is simple and direct, even danceable most of the time. The vocals are tremendous with a clarity and brightness that allow them to rise above the music and grab the listeners attention. Most pop punk sounds young and vibrant, right? Well this is pop punk that sounds mature and worldly - sort of emo in the classic sense before it got so distorted and metal influenced. This is one of Victory's best releases of the year.
