The Abby Travis Foundation
The Abby Travis Foundation (You Seem Like a Nice, Well Adjusted Person Records)

By: Geoff Melton

Having played bass for the likes of Beck, Elastica and KMFDM there's no denying Abby Travis has plenty of talent. On her debut as leader of The Abby Travis Foundation (actually her and various sidemen, including Meat Puppets' Curt Kirkwood, former Red Kross keyboardist Gere Fennelle and percussionist extraordinaire Danny Frankel), this former member of LA bands' The Rails and Love Doll, turns in a stellar disc. Centered around her husky, yet sexy vocals, Travis takes you on a diverse journey through funk tunes, powerhouse rockers, lilting piano-based torchers, Bowie-ish glam, raw punk, ballads and bizarre, tape-loop enhanced psychedelia pulling each one off like the pro she's proven herself to be. I'm eager to hear what she has up her sleeve next.
