Fifty Tons of Black Terror Demeter (Beggars Banquet) By: Geoff Melton

Originally released in Europe as Gutter Erotica under the name Penthouse, Fifty Tons of Black Terror has now released their full-length debut (now called Demeter) stateside. Produced by Steve Albini, Demeter is a ragged, noisy trip through drunken, blues-drenched rock terrain, reminiscent of the likes of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Jesus Lizard. From the down and dirty swagger of opener "Voyeur's Blues" through the punked-up grit of "Road Rash", "Plate of Slags" and "Mare Ingram's Lament" through to the slowed-down sleaze of closing cut "Face Down", Demeter is a raucus blast.
