Morgion
Solinari (Relapse)
By: Jeb Branin
On this, their sophomore release, MORGION have taken their doom to new heights (depths?). The have upped the ante in just about every way except heaviness. They are more emotive, more depressed, more esoteric, and more introspective. All of which makes this album a premiere example of neo-doom. I do think the band have sacrificed a touch of the Sabbath purity they had on their first disc, and frankly there are times that I miss it, but for the most part this disc does the band proud and it will certainly fill a void in the metal scene right now. That void being the one left by bands like TIAMAT and AMORPHIS who have left doom completely behind and moved on to a modern rock sound.
