Squash Bowels/Birdflesh Split 7" [blue vinyl] (Fudgeworthy Records) By: Jeb Branin
BIRDFLESH hail from Sweden and in spite of the fact they haven't been around too long they have certainly figured out to make an impact with their music. They cut loose with a very aggressive and noisy brand of hardcore that borders on grind. They tap into that thick and smashing sound that was the calling card of hardcore bands from Sweden in the eighties and mix it with that sloppy and snotty grind sound pioneered by bands like SORE THROAT. On the flip side of this record the Polish grind maniacs SQUASH BOWELS vomit forth 8 blasts of totally raging grind noise. Their low tuned hyper speed mania is complimented with a triple vocal attack. One low growl, one Japanese style screech and the occasional hardcore yell. Not unlike what NAPALM DEATH did in their early years. This is the best of the new batch on Fudgeworthy Records but it is limited to only 500 copies so quit reading and start ordering.
