Kamelot
The Fourth Legacy (Noise Records)

By: Jeb Branin

On the surface KAMELOT are another power metal band whose sound is so soaring they call the stratosphere home. On closer inspection they are much more than that, which both serves them well and hurts them. Serves them well in that "The Fourth Legacy" is incredibly diverse and impressive, hurts them in that it tends to get a tad esoteric and self indulgent. In addition to the expected metallic underpinnings there are musical influences throughout the album that range from Celtic music to chamber music. Rarely is KAMELOT very heavy but with the vibe they create that isn't a detriment in any way. I would recommend KAMELOT for hardcore power metal fans and those interested in experimentation but a huge caveat is in order for the casual listener or the fan who wants their music to pack a punch.
