Krisiun
Conquerors of Armageddon (Century Media Records)

By: Jeb Branin

Century Media was born as a death metal label and for years their bands set the standard by which all were measured. To this day there are no death metal bands I like more than UNLEASHED and ASPHYX. Though the label has branched out quite a bit over the years, the recent signing of KRISIUN shows that the folks at C.M. still know their death metal. KRISIUN are a long standing but not very prolific band out of Brazil who play an unbelievably violent brand of death metal. Their full throttled assault is an equal mix of flawless technical execution, merciless fury and superior song writing. They have all the elements that fans of classic death are going to love but they are definitely a band moving forward and not looking back. They are also (thankfully) smart enough to not look to stupid trends for inspiration in their progression. In other words, his is not forward looking in that it incorporates things like black metal or industrial metal. Instead, it is forward looking in that it takes the genre and actually propels it ahead by being better than standard set in the past. KRISIUN joins new wave death bands like LOCK UP, HATE ETERNAL and DICHOTIC in forging the future of death metal and reigniting interest in the genre.
