Intensity Virtue of Progress 7" (Six Weeks) By: Jeb Branin
One of the things that struck me the most about this record is the gripping lyrics. They range from political commentary on the impersonal nature of overcrowded classrooms in the Swedish public education system (certainly something people in the U.S. can relate to) to a call for social equality of the sexes to observations of the rape of mother earth. They are intelligently written with an individual perspective that allows them to easily avoid being cliche. Additionally, they are delivered with a fiery passion that burns through the wall of thrashing hardcore that they are couched in... A hardcore that is delivered in the thick and heavy style that has been the mark of the Scandinavian sound since the beginning yet it is not dated sounding or derivative in anyway. Most of the time the music is blazing and hell bent but there are enough change ups to keep things unpredictable and give everything an edge. I'm thrilled to see that the explosion in U.S. thrash and power violence has not swallowed up what is coming out of Europe. Yet another "must have" from the Six Weeks stable.
