Bloodstorm
Pestilence From The Dragonstar (Sold Soul Music)

By: Jeb Branin

I took one look at the cheesy "Doomsday For The Deceiver" style artwork on this CD and instantly prejudged it as a waste of plastic. The generic black metal corpse paint band photos only pushed my expectations lower. But, for not the first time in my "journalistic" career, I rediscovered why the phrase "You can't judge a book by its cover" is so true. It took about 5 seconds of the first song for me to totally reverse my hasty opinion. This sucker is a barnstormer! This ain't no sissy Scandinavian wanna-be black metal with keyboard and "atmosphere". No way. This is 1000mph heavy blasting black thrash with all the violence and blood lust that has always defined the best of the genre. This is the kind of CD you better be careful while playing in your car because you'll find your head banging at a furious pace and your accelerator foot glued firmly to the floor. Not only that, but it is so dark and sinister sounding that the very plausible risk of wrapping yourself around a tree may even sound kind of appealing. Just yesterday I put this CD on at top volume in the kitchen as I was preparing to do dishes (nothing quite like violent music to take the humdrum out of household chores) and my wife came running in from the other room and said "Oh, it is just your music. I thought you had fixed the garbage disposal." You can't possibly expect a better recommendation than that, now can you!
