Don Austin s/t 7" [tan swirled vinyl] (Rubber City Records) By: Jeb Branin
I thought 1999 was the best year ever for thrash hardcore but Y2K is easily eclipsing it. Brilliant bands seem to be crawling out of the woodwork worldwide. Add Akron, Ohio's DON AUSTIN to the list of bands who on the strength of one 7" alone have catapulted themselves to the head of the class. DON AUSTIN do a mindblowing job of merging the violence of the contemporary hyper-thrash sound with the always endearing vibes of vintage D.R.I. All 8 of the tunes on this record are a whirlwind of hit and run hardcore that flail the listener for what can't be a combined total of more than 6 minutes. A template for success if there ever was one!
