Last In Line
L'esercito del Morto 12" LP [green vinyl] (Acme Records)

By: Jeb Branin

Oh yeah, I have been waiting for this one! Ever since I stumbled on their mp3.com site and mailordered their first 7" I have been a dyed in the wool LAST IN LINE fanatic. I was a little concerned that this debut LP was going to pale in comparison to their 7" ("how could it not?" I thought) but my concerns were for nothing. "L'esercito del Morto" picks up right where the ep left off. LAST IN LINE are the new kings of prototypic bloodthirsty hatecore in the vein of the progenitors of the sound like NEGATIVE FX and NEGATIVE APPROACH. I don't mean to imply they are merely reminiscent of that sound or that they borrow from it, I mean they flat out RECAPTURE it. They aren't "inspired" by hatecore, they ARE hatecore. To call these guys "classic sounding" would be an understatement of epic proportions. The hardcore scene is plagued by the cycling and recycling of trend after trend after trend but fortunately there always seems to be a bevy of young and ferocious bands that remain true to the core identity (pardon the pun) of hardcore. LAST IN LINE may be the best of the best amongst the stalwarts.
