Opium Jukebox
Music To Download Pornography By (Invisible Records)

By: Alex Steininger

It's 2am, I'm tired, but I want to finish this pile of CD reviews, go watch Unsolved Mysteries, scare the shit out of myself, and then go to bed, only to wake up at 7am and head to work. That's where I'm at now. But, after listening to this album a bit, and putting it in to review it, I am taken to another mind frame, one where music is life; where music is the basis for everything from food to trees. Not making sense? Well, what the fuck, it's 2am and I'm tired.

Opium Jukebox's Music To Download Pornography By (a theory I couldn't help but test out a few times... it really is, in case you where wondering) is a dangerous, infectious, and jaw dropping experience. Composed entirely of covers, from Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" to Devo's "Whip It" and NIN's "Head Like A Hole," this album is one mind fuck waiting to happen.

The songs sound nothing like the originals, except for one or two light lead melody lines that are directly identical to the melody lines in the original. Other than that, these instrumental jams will play with your mind like acid, tweaking and freaking you out several times over, before dropping the bomb on you, making you lose complete control, and requiring you do it again and again.

A fascinating piece of art put to tape, Opium Jukebox is a dynamic, forceful project that will leave you screaming in amazement. I've never heard these songs butchered this good, and I mean that in the best way possible. I'll give this a B-.
