Brock Pytel Second Choice (Scamindy) By: Geoff Melton
Any of you lucky enough to be familiar with the two late 80's albums from Montreal's The Doughboys will have a good idea of what to expect from this solo debut from Brock Pytel, the man who sat behind the drumkit on those 2 outstanding albums. While plenty of Second Choice is rooted in the melodic, yet ragged punk-tinged rock (think Replacements) of his former band, Pytel also broadens his scope with numerous stripped down acoustic cuts including "Service Interrupted" and "Dear Friend John", as well as the haunting "7xIf". Second Choice is a very welcome return from Pytel, and one that we hopefully won't have to wait 10 more years to hear followed up.
