The Original Brothers and Sisters of Love The Legend of Jeb Minor (The Telegraph Company) By: Geoff Melton
Every once in awhile I come across a disc from some band I've never heard of that hits me from the very first listen. This debut effort from The Original Brothers and Sisters of Love is one such disc. Drawing together everything from folk and rock to sea chanteys and Celtic music this Michigan 6-piece uses an eclectic array of instruments, strong vocals and harmonies, and lyrics largely based around tales of the sea to create a captivating collection of tunes that are at times gritty and sparse and more textured and sweeping at others. Strongly reminiscent of The Waterboys with a bit of Poi Dog Pondering thrown in, this debut is a stirring release that I highly recommend tracking down.
