Edwin McCain Far From Over (Atlantic Records) By: Alex Steininger
Edwin McCain's latest, Far From Over is a glorious pop record, much like the albums before it. It is jazzy, it is folk-y, and loaded with pop. McCain's soaring voice rises to the occasion time and time again, while his sense of humor is hard to compete with ("Radio Star" and its sarcastic stab at fame and idol worship). The only draw back to the album is that McCain's lyrics often fall into cliches, as if he's trying too hard or too little. But, with shining melodies this bright, you can forget the lyrical depth, or lack thereof, and go with the emotion in his guitar and voice. I'll give this a B+.
