The Frames
For The Birds (Overcoat Recordings)

By: Alex Steininger

Picturesque pop-rock songs with beautiful imagery floating through your head while the full, delicate pop slowly drips, embedding a sense of awareness of strong songwriting and complete-ness into your head, The Frames can overcome you with beautiful bursts of bright pop ("Fighting on the Stairs" and "Early Bird"). Put you at ease with softness ("Friends and Foe" and "Santa Maria"). And shake you awake with slightly jarring, contemplative pieces ("Lay Me Down"). They're as glorious as they are faint, hitting you with something that will step up and speak in volumes if need be, but prefers to sit in the back, whispering in your ear, and trying to lead you the right way. It is a delicate, but not overly easy-to-break piece of art that is stunningly poignant. I'll give it an A.
