The Helio Sequence
Young Effectuals (Cavity Search Records)
By: Alex Steininger
Portland, Oregon's The Helio Sequence are back with their sophomore full-length, Young Effectuals. It is an album that finds the band expanding on their My Bloody Valentine psychedelia from their debut, COM PLEX (also on Cavity Search), pushing the Beatles-esque influences to the back burner, and charging ahead with full-throttle, guitar-soaked rock music. Decked out with spacey keyboards, the songs pulsating melodies are complemented with an airy, not so abrasive feel, giving them several layers and dimensions on which you can find yourself fixated on for hours. This is pure, adrenaline-powered psychedelia burning with a primitive rock appetite. I'll give it an A-.
