VARIOUS ARTISTS This Is Next Year: A Brooklyn-based Compilaton (Arena Rock Recording Co.) By: Alex Steininger
This Is Next Year, a Brooklyn-based compilation on Arena Rock Recording Co. is a diverse collection of every walk of life from the Brooklyn streets. In a two-disc set with forty-two tracks, This Is Next Year manages to hit so many styles of music. From Nada Surf's sweet pop of "Blizzard of '77" to Ben Kweller's acoustic-pop on "Problems," through established artists like They Might Be Giants, Ex Models, Les Savy Fav, and Rainer Maria, Arena Rock Recording Co. offers up a complex, filling compilation. If you're looking for folk, pop, rock, punk, experimental, or anything in between, you've come to the right place. I feel like I know Brooklyn so much better now that I've heard this album. I'll give it an A.
