Stone of Abel/Residue Split 7" (Berserker Records) By: jebb

STONE OF ABEL rip out a THC driven number called "Swallow" on their side of this split. Sick and demented vocals (imagine Blaine Fartz singing in a death metal band) immediately catch my ear since they are juxtaposed against a hard driving brand of stonercore. This is what the AmRep sound is like when played with a metallic bent. I love it. On the flip side RESIDUE have to be heard to be believed. They have a seriously unique slant on stoner rock. Imagine, if you will, that VENOM quit playing cheesy t(h)rash metal and instead decided to play MELVINS-esque noise rock. That, my friends, is what this one bone powdering track sounds like. If it is representative of the RESIDUE sound, this is going to be a band to be reckoned with.
