Benumb / Pig Destroyer
Split 3" (Robotic Empire)

By: Jeb Branin

Woa. I was pretty disappointed in the recent PIG DESTROYER CD and I haven't heard anything from BENUMB since their first album so when this dinky 3" disc fell out of the lastest package from Robotic Empire I wasn't exactly chomping at the bit to listen to it. I'm an idiot! This is great. Great, great, great, great. BENUMB are raw, intense and as violent as a starving Pitbull at a cat convention. They only have three songs on here but in the course of those three songs, they have rekindled my interest in their band. The six tracks by PIG DESTROYER are given a caveat in the liner notes as being "rough," "Not meant to represent the current state of the band," "written and recorded in great haste," and meant to be nothing more than a "warm up" before doing real recording. Maybe instead of apologizing for these tracks they ought to find a way to replicate their creation because these are definitely my favorite P.D. tracks ever. Being under processed, spastic, coarse, and ragged are all traits that serve extreme music well. In addition to the great music, the 3" format makes it cool from a collector-dork standpoint and the price is great!
