Lone Pigeon Concubine Rice (Domino Record Co.) By: Alex Steininger
Experimenting with pop and seeing how far they can stray away from the form known as pop, while still writing glorious melodies, Lone Pigeon's Concubine Rice is a dreamy, melodic record swimming with beauty, from delightful harmonies to the warm instrumentation. This is pop music that doesn't engage you with hooks or a sing-along chorus. Instead, Lone Pigeon doesn't want you to sing along, they want you to think along, engaging your mind over your ears, and writing subliminal candy, toying with your subconscious as the songs spin around in your head and make you think and feel them. This is true aural art, made for those that like to listen and take in music, not just blast to create a noise in the background. I'll give it an A-.
