Windsor For The Derby The Emotional Rescue LP (Aesthetics) By: Cam Lindsay
Windsor For The Derby's long-awaited fourth album sees the band viewing the glass as half-full instead of half-empty, as they had done earlier on in their career. The Emotional Rescue LP focuses on creating soft and meaningful songs with simple arrangements and lush harmonies. Though the mood is not completely optimistic throughout, there are moments filled with unexpected pop beauty. "Awkwardness" shows the band venturing towards a more upbeat sound, picking up the pace and showing they do have the ability move beyond their usual gloomy slowcore patterns. "Fall of '68" is wonderfully anecdotal, but the piece de resistance remains to be the epic closer, "Donkey Ride". A simple reverb-heavy guitar ends the album off leaving the listener in dazed and feeling like you've just reached those pearly gates above.
