Vex Red
Start With a Strong and Persistent Desire (Virgin Records)

 Generic modern hard rock that at least has the heart and soul lacking from so many bands. When Vex Red lures you in with soft urgency that soon turns into burning desire, you actually believe that what they have to say. You believe what they are feeling is real and that this is valid rock music, not some pretty boys trying to scream their heart out to get the girls or whiny white-bred suburban kids pouting about their life. And, though the sound adheres to the radio formula, they try and manage to at least offer hope that labels still look for believable bands to sign. I'll give it a C-.
