Hoover's G-String
Crack (Hoover's G-String)

By: Jeb Branin

It's been about four years since this cleverly monikered band spit out their quasi-pop punk gem called "Gargle," so it is a real pleasure to finally get the follow up called "Crack." Over the four ensuing years the band have honed their razor sharp pop sensibilities to the point they can draw blood regardless of the cut they use. Y'see, "Crack" is something of a pop smorgasbord. There are pop-punk ditties, REM inspired acoustic rockers, college radio friendly alterna-fare, distorted (yet accessible) noise rock, and quirky outta-left-field numbers that sound like the band has been shooting up with melted down JUNK MONKEY's records. Whereas most artists plying their trade in this particular arena are seemingly trying to master the art of doing one thing and one thing only, HOOVER'S G-STRING are trying to run the gambit. On the strength of this release HOOVER'S G-STRING join BLUE YARD GARDEN as bands who satan-only-knows why they haven't broken big. Maybe it's because most A&R folks wouldn't know a good thing if it slept with their sister.
