Peabody Professional Againster (Nonzero Records) By: Alex Steininger
Produced by Bluebottle Kiss front man Jamie Hutchings, Professional Againster, the debut full-length from Australia's Peabody, possesses the rock 'n' roll ambition of 80's post-punk and college radio acts, incorporating that driving force with more thought provoking moments (read: quieter songs). Cruising along with reckless abandon, using their sharp guitar riffs and chunky bass, pulled together by the steady time of the drums, to propel the songs, they don't forget the slippery pop that keeps you digging the music, and the hooks. A strong debut from a promising band, Peabody's more elaborate post-punk makes pop music rock again. I'll give it a B+.
