Jason Mraz Waiting For My Rocket To Come (Elektra Records) By: Alex Steininger
Wrapped around the acoustic guitar, Jason Mraz writes songs best described as folk-rock. But with a sense of pop on his side, the songs rise above the typical. With percussionist Toca Rivera, Jason Mraz is able to transcend folk-rock and create a delicate balance between pop-rock, the slick production and made-for-radio palatable-ness, and folk, the tender, honest, real emotions that turn the strumming and yearning into music. Luckily, he's able to do both and create a folk-rock record with a nice dose of pop and a dynamic rhythm section to drive the songs. I'll give it a B-.
