Mechanized Death: An Accused Tribute 2x7" (Transparent Records)

By: Jeb Branin

This record has been in the works for years and more than once I thought it must be dead, but just like the ACCUSED's mascot Martha Splatterhead, death is not a deterrent. This record is two clear wax slabs of pure idol worship. Hardcore and punk bands of every flavor, creed, and persuasion have teamed up to try their hand and playing an ACCUSED standard. Broken-glass-gargling vocals abound and bone crunching riffs fly. Most bands actually make a valiant effort to stick to the originals as much as possible (with varying degrees of success, as you might imagine). A handful of bands try and make the songs their own, which is a superior track most of the time, but flops when applied to something like this. For example, one of my favorite acts here DIZZY DIZZY MKII really bungle "The Corpse Walks"). You'll be amazed at how many tunes have been crammed onto these two records (16 bands, 16 tunes) although, oddly, some of the "bigger" name bands I heard were working on a track for this release (like HIRAX) aren't here. Regardless, a "must have" for ACCUSED fan... duh.
