Idlewild The Remote Part (Capitol Records) By: Alex Steininger
On their forth full-length, the Scotland-based rock outfit Idlewild create a magnificently mature powerhouse with The Remote Part. It's a comfortable album that has no problems delivering a splendid pop-rock piece one minute, soft and tame, and then the next minute driving the emotions home with a post-punk fire starter. Leaving their angst-ridden punk leanings behind them this time, they still don't stray far behind it, they just realize they can say more without screaming, focusing on the melody and the song structure more than anything else. And the outcome is something to marvel at, a wickedly moving record with sweet spots and plenty of momentum to boot. I'll give it a B+.
