Richmond Richmond (Celebrity Hotwax) By: Alex Steininger
Richmond's self-titled full-length is an exercise in all that is hip nowadays. From the folky rock of "Christina", the full-throttle attack of "Old Place", and the country-metal ballad "Bring It On Home", the band weaves their way through plenty of different sounds, playing them all with a modern rock bent, tipping their hats to their influence and their versatility. Mixing it all with a slight garage rock hook, the band bashes out crunchy, guitar-driven songs that, although sometimes come across watered down, or miss their mark, usually keep you tapping your feet and nodding your head in approval. The album has some down moments, but the high moments make it worth a few solid listens. I'll give it a C+.
