Tone Ambient Metals (Dischord) By: Alex Steininger

D.C.-based instrumental guitar band Tone's 4th full-length, and second for Dischord, Ambient Metals, is a controlled, arranged orchestration of subliminal guitar textures and, to a larger extent, rock ambiance, sans the vocals. They deliver the momentum and restraint without saying a word, a tricky, if not nearly impossible feat in a genre as young as rock. However, Tone do it, and in stride to boot. I'll give this a B-.
