 San Jose's post-punk, experimental rock outfit Xiu Xiu deliver their second full-length, A Promise, an exhilarating, exhausting, and over blown take on the extremes, whether they're playing with noise in mind, or writing eloquent melodies. They also slip in enough irony and tongue-in-cheekiness to make you laugh. All while throwing down some off-kilter beats laid out to fuck with your head - at the very least. I'll give it a B.
