Megan Reilly Arc of Tessa (Carrot Top Records) By: Alex Steininger
On her debut full-length, the young Megan Reilly gets a top-shelf cast to back her up. Including Two Dollar Guitar frontman and Cat Power alum Tim Foljahn (guitars, lap steel, mandolin), Tony Maimone from Pere Ubu on bass, and Steve Goulding of the Mekons on drums. With guests Chris Lee, Jenny Morrison (Go Jenny!), and Eric Morrison (Home, Leels), Arc of Tessa comes to lift, its subtle, breezy songs dropping on you like rain off the green leaves of spring. Peaking out of the clouds, the sunny, but shadowy songs evoke plenty of emotions in you, making you feel warm, cozy, and comforted, as the oft-wiry songs crawl from note to note, gracefully laying down a soft, pillow-y bed of melody for you to soak up. I'll give it a B+.
