Fischerspooner #1 (Capitol Records) By: Alex Steininger
Electro-pop that pays homage to the past while invigorating it with the future, Fischerspooner's U.S. debut, #1, is a compelling reason why electronic music can be just as important as live music. What Fischer and Spooner do with electronics, turning it into a true form of pop, and adding guest vocals, is quite creative. Known mostly for their Bowie-influenced, artsy live shows, #1 erases all doubts that Fischerspooner can't, or aren't talented enough to recreate the magic in the studio. #1 more than re-creates the magic, it re-invents it and brings even more depth to the table, ensuring fans, and those unfamiliar with the band, will come to hear something new each time while they expand their palettes and are taken on a fantasy-driven pop trip. I'll give it a B+.
