The Apparitions Oxygen Think Tank (Self-Released) By: Alex Steininger
The Apparitions' Oxygen Think Tank is described as "frantic, post-secondary political science rock with a minor in art history" in their press release. A bit artsy, The Apparitions take the standard indie rock formula, keeping the melodies buried, the hooks somewhat complacent, and add their spin to it all, twisting and turning, molding the style to their own. From the campy "Pieces" through the garage rock of "Silver & Gold", the band jumps around a bit too much to be consistent. But live up to the lo-fi, just do it mindset, creating songs that, though may not fit together immediately, have a common thread - the voice - to at least keep them someone attached. Oxygen Think Tank is a promising debut that has its flaws, but sounds as if the band is working out the kinks. I'll give it a C.
