Lefty's Deceiver Cheats (My Pal God Records) By: Alex Steininger
Slick, well-produced, and tight, Philadelphia-based Lefty's Deceiver's fourth album, Cheats, is a melodic collection of post-hardcore and math rock, presented in an indie rock mindset. Whether they're cranking up the guitars and delivering the noise, or creating soft, moody, yet glowing songs, they always keep things poppy and bouncy, placing the melody first and foremost, much to the album's benefit. However, the good majority of the album is more straight ahead than their post-hardcore and math-rock influences, as the band crafts and follows through with toe-tapping, head-bobbing poppy indie rock. I'll give it a B+.
