Herman Dune Mash Concrete Metal Mushroom (Shrimper) By: Alex Steininger
Herman Dune's fifth solo record, and second for the Shrimper label, is laid back indie-folk, implementing some pop elements into the lazy days, laid back, easy natured songs that line the album. From up tempo songs to ones slow as molasses, Dune embraces the spirit of indie rock with his non-rock compositions, sometimes even breaking down that rule and turning the song into a loose indie-rocker. Lyrically he isn't always on the mark, which is hard due to the stripped down, direct nature of the songs, but, usually with in a song or two he quickly redeems himself. I'll give this a C.
