PFFR
United We Doth (Birdman)

By: Cam Lindsay

They somehow roped in Snoop Dogg to do an intro to United We Doth, and in doing so, PFFR (pronounced with only one F) are the coolest rock band on earth. Simply calling PFFR a rock band may be a little misleading. On United We Doth, these Brooklyn-based mad professors bend and misshape their music so it's anything but simple. They practice and preach a form of psychedelia that is equal parts Boredoms and early Ween, with a certain level of rowdiness that couldn't possibly be challenged. However, a challenge is what PFFR are up for. "3 Murdered 5 Dead" and "Fanfanfantatatasysysy" refuse to become easy on the ears or even remotely clear for a brisk second. They do lean towards more straightforward rock song structures, but the brutally creative lyrics and obscenely loud samples refuse to let any part of it become anything less than vibrant and comical. It's just not possible to create a record more ambitious and manic than this.
