Joe Louis Walker She's My Money Maker (JSP Records) By: Mark A. Lawrence the IV
When Joe Louis Walker sits down to make a slide guitar album, he doesn't mess around. The result is the amazing album, She's My Money Maker, a CD filled to the brim with outstanding slide work. "Poor Man Blues" and "Borrowed Time" are just two of the songs infused with a heavy dose of Walker's slide skills, powerful enough to peal paint of the side of your house. Walker mostly presents his powerhouse style of driving blues, but dose allow for some change of musical moods with the toned down gospel of " My Judgment Day" and the peppy sway of "Eight Years of Loving." Walker also provides an amazing instrumental in "Hooker Blues" whose guitar is matched by Geno Blacknell Jr. on keyboard. His vocals are a medium-grade sandpaper-rough that contrasts the high whine of the slide guitar and provides an Umph to the songs that is pure blues man attitude. This album is solid and is sure to be a favorite after the first listen. Rating: B+
