The Russian Futurists The Method of Modern Love (Upper Class) By: Alex Steininger
The Method of Modern Love embraces the lo-fi aesthetic while still, somehow, coming out with an indie rock record that sounds layered and complete. Not a hole to be seen, everything is pieced together perfectly, despite the shoestring budget and do-it-yourself appetite of the album. Recorded on a 4-track and 8-track, the album was pieced together, but sounds fluent and cohesive, giving credence to the band's bouncy, sparkling, slightly distorted indie-rock pop flavor. The Method of Modern Love showcases a band, on their debut no doubt, that has it all together and while this isn't quite there, will someday make a record that will floor everyone that hears it. Still, this is a punchy package that shouldn't be ignored. I'll give it a B-.
