Birddog
Songs from Willipa Bay (Karma Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Joined by Paul Oldham and Sebadoh's Jason Loewenstein, Bill Santen, who goes under the moniker Birddog, delivers his fifth full-length, Songs from Willipa Bay. It finds him delivering more hushed, acoustic-based indie-folk pop songs that are sparse and emotionally ripe, flourishing with well-written lyrics that paint a story as the listener sits on the edge of his/her seat. The frail, airy music accompanying the stories through high and lows, and heightening the experience for all. Songs from Willipa Bay is one of Birddog's finest, his craft getting better and better, as his pop sensibilities grow. I'll give this a B.
