Turrigenous
Turrigenous (self-released)

By: Mike SOS

Turrigenous is a one-man band whose progressive rock leanings combined with a virtuoso guitarist approach makes a self-indulgent, yet intricate 11-track release. Stressing the stellar fretwork and twisting song structures, Turrigenous harkens back to the glory days of bands such as Rush and Fates Warning. "There is Something Scratching" contains multiple guitar solos for maximum shredding, while "The Neverchain" incorporates a vicious riff into an uncomfortable rhythm that makes for an unsettling listen. While at times Turrigenous and its many twists and turns may become tiresome, the musical gymnastic display as well as the homage to a time when guitarists and drummers were allowed to solo should appeal to fans of Dream Theater, Queensryche, and Nevermore.
