 Ninja Tune certainly does not ever do anything half-assed. After a most impressive triple CD compilation four years ago, they're back with three sets of discs commemorating their finest achievements. One of the most groundbreaking record labels, well, ever, Ninja Tune has assembled two discs for a retrospective (Zen CD), two discs of the best remixes (Zen RMX) and a comprehensive DVD (Zen DVD) with truly amazing footage. Zen CD is pretty straightforward -- a best of the label's artists such as Coldcut, Amon Tobin, Kid Koala, DJ Vadim, Cinematic Orchestra, DJ Food and more. Nothing's missing. Zen RMX collects remixes by only the best in eclectronic music. Squarepusher reworks DJ Food and East Flatbush Project, Manitoba does Mr. Scruff, Four Tet messes with Bonobo and even Coldcut gets in there with a Fog track. Fans of the label's mindblowing visuals though will enjoy Zen DVD's selection of videos by almost all of the artists on the roster as well as numerous other tidbits of fun. A perfect package all around.
