Despitado
The Emergency Response (Jade Tree)

By: Cam Lindsay

Regina, Saskatchewan isn't the first place you'd expect Jade Tree to stumble upon their next signing (it isn't even the 1012th), but it has happened. From the cold, flat prairies comes Despistado, another great addition to the fine resume Canada has been compiling over the past few years. And again, we find a Canadian act unlike any other Canadian act that has made an impact. Despistado are hi-energy angular punk rock that is fond of grooves, subtle melody and impulsive rhythms. Released last year on Edmonton's Does Everyone Stare label, The Emergency Response is comprised of six songs based around a tireless work ethic. Each song is designed with cutthroat precision, embodying the ferocity of At The Drive-In and the straightfaced danceability of The (International) Noise Conspiracy. As a debut, this is staggeringly energetic and filled with non-stop thrills. They reportedly finished their full-length recently, so be on the watch out for that later this year.
