The Not The Not (Shake It Records) By: Alex Steininger
The Not's self-titled full-length is a zany, charged blast of new wave-meets-punk excitement. Incorporating elements of bash 'n' play indie-rock as well, The Not's concoction is one of abrasive melodies and fierce rhythms. Driven by the anxious scream of the front man, and propelled by rip, roaring guitars, here is a band that plays with enough control to have no control and come out sounding good at it. The songs are barely held together, sounding as if they could fall apart at any time, and that's the power of it. In the chaos there is beauty, as demonstrated here. I'll give it a B-.
